Tokyo Century adds 1.5MW / approx. 6MWh battery to Iizuka solar plant, switching to FIP at start of operation

On October 1, 2026, Tokyo Century began operating a 1,500kW / approx. 6,000kWh battery co-located at the Fukuoka Iizuka No.1 Mega Solar Power Plant in Iizuka, Fukuoka, and simultaneously switched the plant from FIT to FIP. The GS Yuasa battery will be operated via Tensor Energy's AI-based Tensor Cloud platform for wholesale and balancing markets. It is the group's second FIP co-located battery after the Kumamoto Arao Mega Solar plant.

Full account

  • Date: battery began operation on October 1, 2026; sales scheme switched from FIT to FIP at the same time.
  • Site: Fukuoka Iizuka No.1 Mega Solar Power Plant (福岡・飯塚第一メガソーラー発電所), Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
  • Battery: output 1,500kW, capacity approx. 6,000kWh, made by GS Yuasa, installed within the existing plant.
  • Existing solar: 1,990kWac, began operating December 2018.
  • Tokyo Century: owner/announcer; Kyocera TCL Solar (group company) operates and manages the plant.
  • Tess Engineering, which built the solar facility, carried out the battery installation.
  • Operation: Tensor Energy's integrated platform "Tensor Cloud", combining AI forecasting of generation and power prices with automated charge/discharge control for the wholesale electricity market and balancing (需給調整) market.
  • Not a new generation build; adds storage to an operating solar plant to shift the timing of supply.
  • Aims: store and supply renewable power otherwise lost to output curtailment, and absorb solar output fluctuation.
  • Group's second FIP co-located battery, following Kumamoto Arao Mega Solar Power Plant (operating since June 2024), which uses the same platform.
  • Not disclosed: capex, expected revenue from the battery, curtailment reduction.
